BioMedica 2008 aims to build in the success of BioMedica 2007 which was attended by over 650 delegates and showed the dynamism of research and development in medical technology and biotechnology both in industry and scientific institutes.

The keynote address will be given by Mrs. Maria van der Hoeven, the Dutch Minister of Economic Affairs; she also will sign at the conference an agreement for intensified research cooperation in life sciences with her colleagues in Belgium and Nordrhein-Westfalia. Keynote lectures will address the healthcare strategy of Philips, health and nutrition research of Unilever and advanced polymers research at Solvay. Speakers from the Netherlands, Germany, Belgium, Sweden, France and the United States will address delegates from across Europe.

Topics include:

-textile biomaterials for implantation in the human body
-electrical stimulation and related tissue reactions
-artificial organs such as human hearts
-rapid bio sensing for medical diagnostics
-molecular and functional imaging of tumour angiogenesis
-potentials of microarrays in cancer logy and immunology
-biomarkers for autoimmune diagnostics
-bioactive peptides combating risk factors of metabolic syndrome.
