First call for Innovative Medicines Initiative a success[Date: 2008-07-22]The first stage of calls for the Innovative Medicines Initiative (IMI), which is supported by the EU with €1 billion in funding, was recently closed and is already being regarded as a success by many of those involved.
In the beautiful harbor city of Dalian, China, the 13th International Biotechnology Symposium (IBS) will be held from October 12th to 17th, 2008. The IBS has been held every four years since 1960 and it has become the premier International Chinese conference in the growing field ok biotechnology.
The exhibition will provide opportunities to the participants to the latest developments in biotechnologies, bio-products and instruments, as well as a platform to foster collaborations.

From May 7Th to 10th , 2009 the meeting “Microbial stress: from Molecules to System” will take place in Semmering, Austria.

From 14th to 19th September 2008 a course on Bioprocess Engineering will take place on the Island of Brac (Croatia). The course covers all the full spectrum of bioprocess engineering, starting from genetic concept for micro-organisms used to produce pharmaceutical and other products via microbial physiology, bioreaction kinetics to bioreactor design scale-up. The course is directed specifically at Ph.D students and experienced biotechnologists from research institutes, universities and industries.

The First International Conference “Translational Research in Oncology” will be held on May 14-16, 2008 in Forlì.
The Conference aims to examine the link between research into cancer and clinical applications of laboratory findings, and to focus on the biomolecular development of new biological drugs. The conference also aims to promote open dialogue between laboratory researchers, clinical oncologists and pharmaceutical companies, of fundamental importance for the successful research into practice.

The Eu Workshop on Molecular Targets for Cancer will be held in Bergen, Norway, on July 11-12, 2008. It is organised by the European Commission DG RTD and the University of Bergen.
The aim of this workshop is to identify possible bottlenecks and put forward solutions that boost the commercial value of potentially innovative findings on molecular targets, emanating from European research on cancer.

The current information about the next Call for proposals: there will be two calls: FP7-HEALTH-2008-A (one-step submission)/ HEALTH-2008-B (two-stage submission). Call budget: €590 million. Call publication: End July 2008. Estimated Call deadlines: HEALTH-2008-A: One-step: November 2008; HEALTH-2008-B: October 2008 first stage/ 2nd stage closure February-March 2009.
